1,000 Homes Project: From Birmingham to Bangladesh

Submitted by Sandhya on

Last year, we committed to five UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Climate Action, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Gender Equality, Good Health & Wellbeing, and Clean Water & Sanitation. These goals continue to guide our work and shape the projects we're delivering.

In Birmingham, we're making real progress towards creating more sustainable communities. We're currently in the process of acquiring a new site where we plan to build environmentally friendly homes that will support greener, healthier places to live.

We're also taking this vision beyond the UK. Our next step is an exciting pilot project in Bangladesh, where we aim to build 1,000 sustainable homes. Bangladesh is one of the countries most affected by climate change, with increasingly severe flooding caused by heavier rainfall and melting Himalayan glaciers. These floods are destroying homes, disrupting livelihoods, and forcing millions of people to leave the places they call home.

By starting in Bangladesh, we'll gain valuable insights into what works best when delivering sustainable housing in challenging environments. We'll use those lessons to strengthen future projects as we expand into other countries, with Pakistan currently being considered as the next location.

This is more than a housing project, it's about creating resilient communities, responding to the impacts of climate change, and helping people build a safer, more sustainable future.
