What is Every Journey Matters?
Every Journey Matters is a community project developed by Legacy West Midlands and funded through the Heritage Lottery Fund. We will be delivering the project over 3 years in collaboration with another local charity organisation called Handsworth Association of Schools.
What is this project about?
Throughout this project we will engage with children and young people, where they will explore, enrich and share their own personal heritage and migrant stories. We will celebrate the wonderful diversity that can be found in the area of Handsworth, Birmingham. We aim to provide an inspiring opportunity for young people to get involved in historical practice, heritage and commemoration. We will achieve this by getting out into the community and partnering with up to 8 primary and 2 secondary schools, where we will work with faculty to deliver interactive and informative workshops to the children and families of the school.
Creating new heritage resources by creating a database of new primary sources that represents the community within the area.
Enhancing the School Curriculum by working with schools to complement and enhance their curriculum to include an embedded heritage focus. This will culminate in the creation of an innovative Heritage Education Resource Pack for Key Stages 1-4.
Fostering a sense of local pride by developing mini heritage trails with the children and young people, enabling them to exhibit their favourite parts of the school community.
Showcasing the fantastic heritage of the area where each school will have a showcase event to celebrate all of the amazing work that has been completed.
