Experience two newly commissioned exhibitions by BADA artists, exploring identity, memory, migration and belonging through contemporary visual art, alongside an intergenerational Nakshi Kantha exhibition celebrating the rich traditions of storytelling, craft and cultural heritage.

Echoes of Motherland by Tamima Munmun

A painting and installation-based project exploring the emotional, cultural and psychological connections between Bangladesh and its diaspora. Combining painting, objects, sound and audience participation, the work presents the “motherland” as a living presence carried through memory, language and cultural practice.

Inner Complexities: Perception in Transition by Faim Islam

Exploring light, architecture, memory and identity through the experience of an immigrant artist. Drawing on Faim’s experiences as a Bangladeshi artist living in the Midlands, the work considers how our sense of self and surroundings shifts through different environments and experiences.

Threads of Birmingham

Discover a vibrant Naskhi Kantha artwork created through a series of intergenerational workshops facilitated by textile artist Abeda Begum. Bringing together participants of Chinese, African Caribbean and Bengali heritage, the workshops used the traditional Bangladeshi craft of Nakshi Kantha as a way to share stories, explore identity and celebrate Birmingham’s diverse communities. The artwork brings together colour, pattern and personal stories, connecting generations through craft.

I haven't rode a bike in 50 years and that was when I was 10 years old. The bikes have changed and they now have gears for both the front and back wheels. I had the front wheels in 1st gear and the back wheels in 2nd gear which made for a better work out for me. Before this I had no prior experience to the sport and always felt nervous when stepping onto the court.
