A musical grand tour of Bangladesh’s provinces and musical traditions as told through the eyes of an imagined female protagonist, Maya.
The Story of Maya, written and created by Bangladeshi musician Neel Kamrul, is presented as part of BCMG’s ongoing Music in Dialogue series. Music in Dialogue forges new pathways, bringing together music from different traditions in new compositions and on stage.
Bangladesh, the largest river delta in the world, offers a unique musical landscape shaped by its people and their life-cycle that revolves around the rivers. The country is crisscrossed by a numerous number of waterways that once created isolated communities developing their own genre of music. Through the story of Maya, a daughter of this land, we will walk you through the spectacular musical landscape of Bangladesh painted with poetry and melody.
