About this event

This immersive art installation, titled The Wall: Mrs. (Where Her Story Lives), is a tribute to the unyielding spirit, compassion, and quiet heroism of the women of Birmingham in 1971. At its heart, it honours the life and legacy of Mrs.Pasha — a formidable woman whose courage and selfless contributions stand as a remarkable chapter in the collective memory of the British Bangladeshi community.

The Wall: Mrs. is a space for remembrance, recognition, and reckoning. It invites a profound emotional response by unveiling a frequently overlooked aspect of history: the invisible yet powerful role women have played during times of crises.

It fosters intergenerational connection, bridging those who lived through the events of 1971 with those who inherit their legacy. Visitors will come to understand that revolution did not unfold solely in public or political spaces, but also within domestic ones —where women like Mrs. Pasha fostered solidarity, nurtured resistance, and shaped a quiet but powerful rebellion.

Drawing inspiration from the lived stories of Mrs. Pasha and many other women who, far from the battlefield, waged their own revolution in kitchens, crowded living rooms and streets across Birmingham and London — this installation brings to light a seldom told narrative. These women, while raising children and managing homes, also mobilised communities, organised resistance, and nurtured a fierce love for their motherland—Bangladesh—at the dawn of its birth.
