It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Councillor Waseem Zaffar MBE, who passed at the age of 44. A dedicated public servant, Waseem represented the Lozells ward on Birmingham City Council from 2011 and held senior cabinet roles covering transport, highways, environment, and climate change.

He was a passionate advocate for environmental sustainability and social justice, and a tireless champion for residents, businesses, and charities across Lozells and Birmingham. His commitment to public service and community wellbeing earned him widespread respect.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, his three children, and his family and friends. As we remember Waseem, we honour a life of service, dedication, and generosity, whose values will continue to inspire future generations.

Gone too soon. Today has been one of the most difficult days of my life. I have lost a brother. The city has lost one of his greatest sons.

My grieve is nothing compared to what his family must be feeling.

We stood by each others side no matter what for the last 3 decades. We challenged each other, inspired each other and championed each other. We had many more roads to travel together, alas the journey has come to an abrupt end.

Rest in Peace my brother - Aftab Rahman
