Joining our motivated office team, the successful candidate will lead on two exciting and fully-funded heritage programmes. The Stronger Communities Heritage Trail Network Programme will develop a network of new and preexisting heritage trails that explore Birmingham’s history. Launched to coincide with this year’s Commonwealth Games, the scheme will facilitate volunteers in creating and leading their own trails. The Heritage Officer will recruit and train local volunteers to provide tours that lead residents and visitors to sites of historical and cultural significance, shining a spotlight on diverse heritage stories. The role will involve conducting tours and promotional activities, operating a series of popular pre-existing heritage trails. The successful candidate will also liaise with community groups to integrate each trail, facilitating collaboration. The network has been established, channeling the enthusiasm of volunteers and making the most of the Games.

Delivered in partnership with Handsworth Association of Schools, Every Journey Matters is a new Heritage Lottery Fund supported project to be based in north Birmingham schools and helping young people to learn about their family backgrounds and Commonwealth heritage. Young people will collect primary sources and contribute toward vibrant school displays of archival materials and interviews. The successful candidate will spearhead this provision, ensuring successful engagement and realisation of core deliverables.

The post is funded by Birmingham City Council, Commonwealth Games Legacy Fund and Heritage Lottery Fund
