SIMRA

Our European Project SIMRA II Project brings together 9 partners from 5 EU countries (UK, Greece, Cyprus Sweden & Poland), including facilities in 5 cities concerning different aspects of migration in Europe. SIMRA’s II general objective is to foster active participation of migrant/asylum seeking/refugee women in the ‘host’ society. This has been achieved by developing, implementing and evaluating a pilot intervention scheme. Its aim is to create acommunal space for social interaction to take place, on the basis that the more dynamic and inclusive the interaction, the more successful the integration.

The project builds upon successful methodologies, tools and practices created by the partners. This includes support and empowerment services, skills assessment and training, gender and migrant oriented practices facilitating access to equal opportunities through education and employment, as well as initiatives facilitating interaction within local communities.

Through this project, Legacy WM has successfully;

  • Developed migrant women as local community champions, delivering peer led interventions and cultural events aimed at integrating migrant women into society
  • Set up multiethnic and multi faith drop-in services for migrant women at Saathi House Women’s Centre
  • Developed a women only social prescribing service “Lets Grow’, which targets the specific needs of migrant women
  • Developed an employment skills development programme, including a monthly careers surgery for migrant women called ‘Believe to Achieve’.
