Taiba Aqeel
Role
Administrative Assistant

Taiba is our newest addition to our team, who just joined in April 2023. She is currently approaching
her final year at Aston University, studying History and Politics. Initially, Taiba was a placement
student between January-March 2023 at Black Heritage Walks Network. She was able to create her
own heritage walk – The Lock, Stock & Barrel- and even guided the first walk to a private group
consisting of Aston University students, lecturer and a member of the Lunar Society!

She has previously been involved in various other history projects. In October 2021, she was part of
the ‘Hidden Voices: Black Healthcare Workers in the Midlands’ project, that was conducted by Aston
University. She transcribed and interviewed black nurses from different generations in the NHS to
understand the different experiences black nurses had. She has also worked with different heritage
organisations from Aston University, Believe in me CIC, Gap Arts and The Library of Birmingham. Due
to this, she has experience in project planning, interviews, debates, researching, and public speaking.
She even participated in an episode of Amber Gills podcast ‘Amazing Starts Here’ to speak on her
experience working in the heritage sector as a young South Asian woman in their episode titled
‘Believe in Me: The Guardians of South Asian History’.
