Gary has worked in the voluntary sector since 1979, starting out as a youth worker in Ladywood, Birmingham. His motivation has always been helping people to improve their lives, achieve their full potential and move out of poverty. He has served many charities in non-executive roles, working with homeless young people, faith communities, social enterprises, equality and heritage. Gary’s career has traversed, private, public and voluntary sectors, often working as a catalyst for co-operation between agencies for community based regeneration.

Gary was Chief Executive and Director of several strategic partnerships in Birmingham, Burton and Sandwell from the 1990’s. In 2018 he returned to his first love of supporting the voluntary sector. He is now Director of BowmanWright CIC, set up specifically to support the work of voluntary organisations. Gary believes that the greatest impact is made on the lives of the most vulnerable by locally based organisations, and he is passionate in supporting individuals and communities develop from small beginnings to become champions and leaders.
